Competition Winner Collects His Moulton TSR 5

BOA Cycling Festival Moulton TSR 5 Winner

BOA Cycling Festival Moulton TSR 5 Winner

You may remember that as part of the run-up to the BOA Cycling Festival, Moulton Bicycles which is based in Bradford On Avon was giving away a Moulton TSR 5 bike to one lucky entrant participating in the cycling festival.

As the bikes are made to order we had to wait for it to be made for our winner Chris Brannan in green but it was worth it as it is a piece of art.

Chris who took part in the Great BOA Sportive which took place on the Sunday is new to cycling and it was actually his first ever sportive. Chris works in Trowbridge and has been commuting regularly to work and now with his brand new Moulton TSR 5 he will now be making to work in style.

We asked Chris whether we will see him participate at the 2019 BOA Cycling Festival, which he replied: “most definitely and I may even do the longer route”. The question will be will we see him enter on his new steed?

We encourage you to keep your eyes peeled as shortly we will be announcing the dates for the BOA Cycling Festival 2019 along with when you can enter and secure your spot. From last years success, we expect the 2019 event will be a sellout event so act fast.

A huge thanks go to all at Moulton Bicycles for supporting the event by supplying the competition prize but also for being a sponsor.

BOA Hill Climb Champ Goes on to become National Hill Climb Champion

The growing popularity of hill climbs means many more cyclists are taking part in these tests of fitness and endurance. A competitor must go into the event on form. One such participant was Andrew Feather who was victorious in the national hill climb championships last week.

The last-minute change of venue from Shalsey Walsh Climb to Pea Rod Lane in Stocksbridge did not faze Andrew who climbed the 0.8 km course in an impressive 2 minutes 18 seconds finish.  Andrew entered in top form winning 11 of the 14 previous climb events of the year, including 5 consecutive victories.

The astute will notice that Andrew also took the win in the BOA hill climb back in the summer. His winning time of 53.44 seconds started his season off well and helped him on his way to the national hill climb championships.

Whilst Andrew appeared to be running out of steam over the last 100 metres, the former elite road racer he held strong for the victory, finishing 2 seconds ahead of his nearest competitor.

In the female competition, Fiona Burnie claimed victory by the narrowest of margins with her nearest rival finishing just half a second behind.

Both Andrew’s and Fiona‘s victories were well earned with plenty of prior preparation and training going to give the best chance of victory.  There’s every chance that Andrew will be back to defend his title next year so keep your eyes peeled for details on the next BOA hill climb event in 2019.

The BOA Hill Climb Review By The Cycling Dane

BOA Hill Climb Video

One fellow participant who came along to the BOA Cycling Festival “The Cycling Dane” has sent in his thoughts about the hill climb on his Vlog. Having watched it a few times we got in touch with him to ask his permission to use it as we feel that it captured what it was all about. Looking back it was great fun and hopefully, this will inspire a few more to do it again next year.

Hats off to you Cycling Dane hopefully next year with a few more hill climbs under your belt you may get across the line in under that 1-minute mark!

This homegrown bicycle brand Moulton Bicycles features hugely in the history books of Bradford on Avon in a significant way. There is so much history behind the brand which was started over 50 years ago to express in this sponsor summary. However, you can read it for yourself here.

Moulton Bicycles is still based at the heart of Bradford on Avon on the Holt Road. Many of us have passed and never knew what artistry was going on behind the walls of The Hall. In the bicycle workshops, there are a handful of master craftsman assembling hand built bicycles. It really was memorable the first time I visited as the smell of frames being machined and brazed was a unique experience and took me back to my childhood days and reminded me of my father’s engineering workshop.

Moulton Bicycles has made a significant ongoing influence on how bikes are made today and continue to do so from the workshops in Bradford on Avon.

As a homegrown bicycle brand, we are very pleased to have Moulton Bicycles sponsor the event and they will have a presence at the event showcasing their bikes. Our goal for this sponsor is to inform the local community about this historic company, the importance it has made to Bradford on Avon and to showcase the great bikes that they still make today.

We are delighted to announce that we have 5 great sponsors for the BOA Cycling Festival for 2018. The event has been well received by the business community of Bradford On Avon and the surrounding areas. All the sponsors are extremely supportive of what the cycling festival is and our vision to make it one of the largest year on year cycling events in Wiltshire.

In no particular order here are the sponsors:

Varn Logo

We are pleased that Varn has come on board as a sponsor as their forward thinking and proactive attitude is great. As soon as we introduced the cycling festival to them they could see our vision and wanted to be part of it.

“I feel it is important to support the town we are based in and where I and half our staff live.  The Cycle Festival is a great initiative that gives Bradford on Avon chance to build even more of a community as well as show itself off to the rest of the region.”  Tom Vaughton, Managing Director

ab-dynamics-v3

Arguably one of the largest employers in Bradford On Avon (Don’t quote me on this) is AB Dynamics.

Founded in 1982 as a vehicle engineering consultancy, AB Dynamics has grown steadily to become one of the world’s most trusted suppliers of automotive test systems. Today, our clients include the top 25 global vehicle manufacturers, all seven Euro NCAP laboratories and numerous government test authorities.  Who would have known that this leading business in their sector was nestled in Bradford On Avon.

Many of you would have seen their nice new building based on Middleton Drive on the route out of the town towards Holt. What they do there is extremely complex and mind-boggling however everyone is safety conscious these days and locals should be extremely proud to have such an innovative company on their doorstep.

AB Dynamics will have a presence on the weekend of the event which will give many a great opportunity to learn more about what goes on within the company and what the vision is. If you want to learn more feel free to get in touch as they would love to hear from you.

Being a cycling festival when TT Cycles showed an interest to be a sponsor it was a total no-brainer for us. TT Cycles has been in Bradford On Avon since it launched in 1990 as has remained the local bike shop of choice for many people.

If you wish to buy a bike or accessories or simply want your bike serviced then TT Cycles is where to go. They stock a wide variety of bike brands, including Focus, Cube, Marin, and Ridgeback. Covering all cycling disciplines, road, commuter, mountain bike, cyclocross, and kids…

Having moved their HQ last year they now have a showroom and workshop behind Sainsbury’s in town on Elm Cross Business Park they encourage you to come and take a look.

TT Cycles certainly will be present over the weekend of the event but for those entering events pop in and get your bike tip top ready to take part.

Every now and again everyone needs some financial guidance to what / how to manage their finances wisely. Jones Hill Fiduciary Planning is a great company who is based at the Old Brewery in Bradford On Avon.

We love this statement on their website,

“Probably Wiltshire’s nicest, unstuffiest, most plain speaking, down-to-earth, expert independent financial advisers.”

This is what most people want from a service like this, trust and confidence in the experts. It is great to have a sponsor on board who is not directly linked to cycling in any way but wants to connect with the community and engage on a down to earth level. If you are in need of some independent financial planning get in touch with Brian and his team via:
